Sensitive Teeth

Teeth can be sensitive for many different reasons, including cavities, gum recession, and grinding or clenching. If your teeth seem to be sensitive, here are some suggestions that may help:

  • Brush your teeth with a toothpaste containing potassium nitrate. Try Sensodyne, Crest Sensitive toothpaste, or Colgate Sensitive Maximum toothpaste. The product must be used for a minimum of 2 weeks for effectiveness. Be aware that tartar control toothpastes can cause sensitivity.
  • Use a prescription topical fluoride paste like Clinpro 5000.
  • Say “Emma” at least six times a day. This works as a reminder to your jaws to relax.
  • Wear a night guard at night.
