Teeth can be sensitive for many different reasons, including cavities, gum recession, and grinding or clenching. If your teeth seem to be sensitive, here are some suggestions that may help:
- Brush your teeth with a toothpaste containing potassium nitrate. Try Sensodyne, Crest Sensitive toothpaste, or Colgate Sensitive Maximum toothpaste. The product must be used for a minimum of 2 weeks for effectiveness. Be aware that tartar control toothpastes can cause sensitivity.
- Use a prescription topical fluoride paste like Clinpro 5000.
- Say “Emma” at least six times a day. This works as a reminder to your jaws to relax.
- Wear a night guard at night.
